Why a Blog?

Goodness, this blog has been a long time coming! I’ve been contemplating this since I moved to North Dakota, which was almost three years ago! At this point, Spencer, is probably shocked this is actually happening. I’m pretty sure he thought I was all talk when it came to this blog and that I’d never actually pursue it for real but he is also my biggest supporter when it came to starting it.

Honestly, for a long time it was just an idea, and I wasn’t sure I was ever going to take the next steps to start this blog. But I am so excited for this and so happy I actually decided to move ahead with it!

When I talk about blogging I get asked why I want to start a blog, and I have asked myself the same question over and over. The biggest reason is I want to share my life here in North Dakota, living on a real, operating farm, learning the ropes and how things work. I don’t think many people thought I would enjoy farm life or the Midwest (including Spencer and my family, at first), but I have grown to love it so much and it has become the place that feels the most like home. It’s different than I imagined my life when I was young, but it has become such a huge part of who I am and what I love and I want to share my experiences with farm life and what I am learning along the way!

Another reason for starting this blog is that I wanted a creative outlet and a place to encourage others. As many know, I am a nurse by trade, but I wanted something more to do outside of work. Plus, winters here get long and this girl needs something to do in her free time! So, this is my way to share the others things I love doing like: cooking and baking (I inherited this love from my mom), traveling, which Spencer and I do whenever we have a long weekend or a break in farming, our home (which is a work in progress), and other projects and fun things we’re doing around the farm.

I hope you enjoy what I have to say and thanks for coming along on this journey as I navigate life on the farm and bring a little East Coast to the Midwest!
